The playlist that will shift your perspective
**Here at M.T. Deco, we want you to not only thrive in business and life, but we want to help you find the tools that work for you to do that. Welcome to our inaugural monthly playlist, curated by M.T. Deco friend & fan, Lissie Jacobson, a one-woman music library. Let this be the soundtrack for your work days, while you’re out for a walk, or going for a drive. Below, Lissie shares her full list and the inspiration behind her choices, and the lyrics that totally spoke to her. **
I broke this playlist down to a mix of messages about life. Taking time to appreciate the small things, accepting darkness when it comes, but always moving forward. Effort for success and balance is so prominent, we find ourselves putting additional effort into just trying to find our own peace. “Life is what you make of it! Don’t take it too seriously! Stop and smell the roses!”
I hope you find a message among these songs that speaks to you and your pursuit of peace.
Sunday Morning Feeling-Apollo LTD, Ryan Stevenson
“In my soul it’s a sunny day”
It’s just a day of the week and a time of day, but we know exactly the feeling they’re talking about. It resonates with everyone, even if you’re not a morning person. :)
To The Sea- Ray LaMontagne
“The moment we held in our hands”
This one is so descriptive of a day at the beach, the simplicity of it, but also appreciating a happy memory for what it is.
I Hope You Dance- Lee Ann Womack
“May you never take one single breath for granted”
A deep reminder to live life to the fullest and cherish every opportunity.
Ends of the Earth- Lord Huron
“There’s a world that was meant for us to see”
We’re a small part of a big big world. Go see it, explore it, live it.
Rainbow- Kasey Musgraves
“There’s always been a rainbow hanging over your head”
Her voice is magical- telling us that the storm may come, but it always passes.
Go for a Walk - Lissie
“Don’t want my life passing me by, but I’ve got time to make things right”
Sometimes walking aimlessly leads your body and your mind to a really good place.
Something Just Like This- The Chainsmokers, Coldplay
”Just something I can turn to, somebody I can miss”
I love the message here -- we don’t need to be perfect or superhuman to be loved.
Don’t Want to Be Without you - Penny and Sparrow
“Anything you become, let me run beside you”
MT: Your partner, your circle, your tribe- they’re so important- choose wisely.
Happier- Marshmellow, Bastille
“I wanna raise your spirits/I want to see you smile but know that means I'll have to leave”
I like this message of acceptance that people and relationships change and end. Hard decisions pave the way for happiness.
Don’t Stop- Fleetwood Mac
“Open your eyes, look at the day, you’ll see things in a different way”
Simple message here; Keep your head up, keep looking forward.
Closer to Fine- Indigo Girls
“The best thing you’ve ever done for me, is help me take my life less seriously”
A different perspective...there’s so much heaviness and darkness that seeking the simplistic could lift some of the weight and pressure of life.
Lost in My Mind- The Head and the Heart
“You're already home where you feel loved”
There’s an inquisitive nature to this one that I love -- asking yourself questions to get to the root of how you’re really feeling.
Wanderlust- Frank Turner
“Baby let’s get out of the city, we need to breathe some cleaner air”
Some people just can’t be tied down, but are open to having others join their journey.
Head full of Doubt- Avett Brothers
“There was a dream and one day I could see it, Like a bird in a cage I broke in and demanded that somebody free it”
The majority of us see and are being guided by the good -- follow the dream and utilize the drive.
Blackbird- The Beatles
“Take these broken wings and learn to fly”
So much up for interpretation here, but I get messages of growth and rebuilding.
Times Like These (acoustic) - Foo Fighters
“It's times like these you learn to live again”
It’s such an Iconic song and the acoustic version really amplifies the vocals and the message.
