The perfect playlist to inspire you in the new year

**Here at M.T. Deco, we want you to not only thrive in business and life, but we want to help you find the tools that work for you to do that. Welcome to our latest monthly playlist, curated by M.T. Deco friend & fan, Lissie Jacobson, a one-woman music library. Let this be the soundtrack for your work days, while you’re out for a walk, or going for a drive. Below, Lissie shares her full list and the inspiration behind her choices, and the lyrics that totally spoke to her. **

Happy New Year, music lovers! I, like Jamie - am not a huge resolution person, but after the last 2(!!) years- I’m on board with anything that helps people motivate themselves. A new day, week, year- whatever inspires you and kicks up the wind in your sails. A friend used the word “content” recently regarding a photo she saw of me. As a self-proclaimed “word nerd” I thought more deeply about the meaning behind it and similar ideas. The thought of a reset is so refreshing - anything that leaves you feeling at peace, basking in new contentment, and starting anew with motivation and a fresh perspective. Hopefully this playlist can help you along the way.

Peace, by Lissie

“Throw back the curtain, make me feel certain”

Digging deep to find the kinks and do doing what you can to straighten them out.

Breathe In, by Frou Frou

“I have to be somewhere/Now where did I put it?”

Her voice and the highs and lows of this song inspired me to add it. An oldie but goodie.

Heavy, by Birdtalker

“Leave what’s heavy/what’s heavy behind”

I’m all about the messages of not carrying it all (thanks to The Decemberists), this is another good one.

Change (Taylor’s Version), by Taylor Swift

“But I believe in whatever you do”

It’s always good to have someone in your corner, especially Taylor.

Can You Feel It, by Birgir

“I’ve got a feeling that I’ve never felt before/Something so magical, some kind of beautiful”

I hope you find something magical and beautiful in the new year!

Glorious, by Ella Henderson

“Oh, ‘cause we got flaws in all of us/But that’s what makes us glorious”

The way we talk to and treat ourselves is important- this is a good reminder of that.

Remember This, by Jonas Brothers

“Life moves a little faster/Every second I’m with you”

I’m a huge advocate of being in the moment, and recognizing when something is going to be a long-lasting memory.

Glad You Exist, by Dan + Shay

“Take a moment just to take it in/’Cause every high and every low led to this”

Another reminder to stop and take a look around and enjoy the good people you have in your life.

Peace, by O.A.R.

“I just want to make you laugh/I just want to see that smile”

The goal of peace and laughter in a time of turmoil has always resonated with me - a poignant reminder.

The World I Know, by Collective Soul

“Have we eyes to see/That love is gathering?”

New genre for these playlists, but a soulful song to try to see the bigger picture.

1234, by Feist

“Old teenage hopes are alive at your door”

Love this light-hearted tune, channeling youth and the joy and hopefulness that comes along with it.

Welcome Home, Son, by Radical Face

“Heal the scars from off my back/I don’t need them anymore”

Always down for a wind chime intro and some rhythmic clapping-this song has such a beautiful flow.

Australia, by The Shins

“Dare to be one of us, girl”

This upbeat jam has really pulled me out of some dark places, reminds me to keep moving.

Chicago, by Sufjan Stevens

“I was in love with a place/In my mind, in my mind”

I may be biased but there’s such an energy and a vibe to NYC- so the idea of being in love with a place I think can resonate with quite a few of you.

White Winter Hymnal, by Fleet Foxes

“I was following the pack, all swallowed in their coats”

As much as I dislike the cold, I do enjoy the look of a white winter, this simple song encapsulates that.

New Slang, by The Shins

“I was happier then with no mindset”

An iconic song from the “Garden State” soundtrack and my introduction to The Shins – if Australia is the new, this is certainly a classic.

The Good Part, by AJR

“So can we skip to the good part?”

We’ve all seen those Tik Tok videos- but AJR has been putting out some solid tunes, great new(ish) band.

Just A Ride, by Jem

“But don’t forget, enjoy the ride”

I love her voice and the message here - while you’re working toward your goals, don’t forget to be in the moment.

Lights, by Ellie Goulding

“And I’m not sleeping now, the dark is too hard to beat”

Another beautiful voice, but you can tell she’s bouting with some stage fright. It’s so common for a sweet sounding song to have a darker meaning.

Paradise, by Coldplay

“So she ran away in her sleep/dreamed of para para paradise”

Who isn’t dreaming of a beach or warmer weather right now? It’s always important to have a plan of something to look forward to - mine is Key West in February :)

Auld Lang Syne, by Marzipan & Mistletoe

“And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet/For auld lang syne.”

This is such a fascinating song. What I like to take away from it comes from wikipedia- “generally interpreted as a call to remember long-standing friendships.”I cherish my friendships so much, and it’s fun to listen to this version and find what moves you within it.
