What’s the difference between a Facebook Business Page like and follow?
File this question under things I’m asked by e v e r y client at some point. And every time I end up googling it myself just to double check.
Why is this so confusing?? Ugh, at any rate, here’s the breakdown [again]…
LIKE: When someone likes a page, they are showing support and they want to see content from it. The page will also show up as being liked in their profile ABOUT section.
FOLLOW: When someone follows a page, this means they might receive updates about it in their news feed [thank you Facebook for clarifying].
However…
Here are some details that aren’t very clear…
People who LIKE a page automatically FOLLOW it
If someone LIKES a page, they can opt to unfollow it, so they don’t receive updates about it
People can FOLLOW a page, even if they haven’t liked it
THE MOST INTERESTING… The name or the profile picture of a person who LIKES the page MAY be shown on the page or in ads about the page
So there you go. I don’t think most people understand the difference, let alone the caveats that come with one or the other.
How about all of you? Anyone else struggle with delineating one from the other?
